      Krishna is Worshipped fourteen times a day by the swamiji. Of course The first ten take place in the forenoon and the remaining four are the evening services. Thus the Lord of fourteen types of poojas everday.

THE FOURTEEN POOJAS ARE:

  1. Nirmaalya Visarjana Pooja:
    At 4.00 a.m the door of the shrine is opened. The Swamiji in charge of the two years paryaya takes his bath in the lake Madhva Sarovara and after his meditation and libation (tarpana)in a room adjacent to the sanctum sanctorum enters the shrine. when the Preist chant the vedas and bells ring the Swamiji removes the flowers, sacred leaves and sandal paste ete. from the image. He then removes the ornaments.The image of Krishna holding the churning rod which was originally revealed to Sri Madvacharya can be seen now. This vision of thed Lord is Known as Viswaroopa Darsana. After the nirmalya is removed there is a five fold service to the image. The tulasi sprouts ans sandal paste are offered. Morning breakfast is offered and aarati is waved in a round plate. The dishes offered at this service are beaten rice and curd, groundnuts, ginger,jaggery and coconut and betal leaf and nut.
  2. Ushakala pooja:
    After removing the previous day's decorations and flowers the swamiji pours water on the idol is completely washed the ushakala pooja is performed. Sandal paste and tulasi sprouts are offered. Eight aaratis are waved around the image after naiveedya. The dishes offered are rice milk curd tender coconut and betal leaf and nut.
  3. Aksaya Paatra Pooja - Gopooja
    Then the swamiji performs Poojas to aksaya paatra and cows. The aksaya vessel and laddle are preserved and worshipped from the time of Madhvacharya. it is believed that the Acharya himself presented these vessels and blessed that the annadaana or the mas feeding will continue in the holy place for ever. That is why the vessels are worshipped even now. The Cows have free access and freedom of movement in the precinct of sri Krishna who was grazing the cows sporting with the gopa youths and maidens in Vrundavan. The cows which come out of the cow-heard in the morning move about around the shrine. A cow specially selected for the worship stands at the doors of the sanctum sanctorum. The Swamiji worships that cow. Fried rice, laddus of country sugar, banana etc are offered first to Lord Krishna and the aarati is waved around the idol. The aaaraati is shown around the aksaya paatra and the cow .The dishes are offered to the cows.
  4. Panchamrutaabhiseeka Pooja:
    This ritual is to be performed by the paryaya swamiji himself. The idol is washed well. The sandal paste (Shree gandha)and the flowers are removed. In the hall known as suurya saale the preists chant the vedic hymns. The Swamiji first pours the coins of gold on the idol. The abhisheka starts with ghee. A conch full of cows's ghee is poured on the head of the idol and it flows doen upto feet. Then milk, curd, honey and sugar are poured on the image. Thirty two tender coconut water is used for abisheka. After this abhishekha sandle paste, floer and tulasi sprouts are offered as naivedya ans eighat aaratis are waved. The materials of abhisheka are again poured on the image of Mukhyaprana and then distributed to the devotees of holy water.
  5. Udvartana Pooja :
    The activity of rubbing the body of image to remove the grease is known as Udvartana. This is the fifth ritual. The image is rubbed with the powder of green gram and hot water is poured. Sandle paste, flower and tulasi are offered. Lord Krishna after this hot water bath accepts hot rice, milk, butter and butter and tender coconut and then aarati is waved in a round plate.
  6. Kalasa Pooja:
    After the bath of panchamarta tje idol oid bathed in pure water. Before this ritual two golden pots are filed with pure water and presiding deities of kalasa are invoked. This is known as Kalasa pooja. The golden pots are decorated with tulasi ans sandle pasted. The swamiji sanctifies this water with chantings of Krishna mantra. Then pitha Pooja is performed and naiveedya is offered . The aarati is wavaed. The rice offered here is later submitted to image Garuda.
  7. Tirtha Pooja:
    The ritual of abhisheka takes place after the kalasa pooja and pitha pooja. The preists chant purusa suktha and the swamiji pours holy water on the image from the golden pot. fter collecting the poured water in the pot of thirtha the image is gently wiped with silken cloth. The sandle paste and flowers are offered. Eight aaratis are waved after the naivedya of pan cake, butter, jaggery, pudding, coconut, banana and betal leaf and nut.
  8. Alankara Pooja:
    The next programme is decoration of idol with various kind of ornaments, armours and halo-like archs. Upto tirtha pooja one can have the vision of the idol as such, what is known as visvarupa darsana. Then the navagraha window is closed during alankara or decoration. The window is opened at the time of alankaara pooja. From then onwards one can have the darsana of Krishna with full ornament and costumes. The idol is decked differently on different days of the week. Only the face is not covered. Other parts of the body decorated differently on different days present new images to the devotees. If it is golden halo one day, it is an armour of diamonds the other day. The idol is present as the incarnation of matsya (fish), Kuurma (tortoise), Parashurama or Rama on different occasions. There is a big treature of ornaments made of silver, gold, diamonds, pearls and other costly stones. Many kinds of Vijayanagar and Mysore Palace have offered ornaments to Lord Krishna. It may also be noted here that on every Friday the idol is decorated with costumes of the Goddess. During the days of Navaratri Festival also the idol is decked with women's costumes. After the alankara the window is opened. Rice, pudding, laddus, flat rice, curds, koosumbari etc are offered and sixteen aaratis are waved.
  9. Avasara Sanakaadi Pooja:
    The alankara pooja need not be performed by the Swamiji himself. But the next two rituals namely avasara sanakaadi puja and the mahaa pooja are to be performed by the paryaya Swamiji himself. None else is authorized to perform these two rituals. The ninth ritual namely the Avasara Sanakaadi Pooja is a peculiar ritual performed only to Sri Krishna of Udupi. There is a story behind that. Sanaka, Sanandana, Sanatana and Sanatkumara are the originators of the lineage of Madhva priesthood. It is known as Sanaka lineage. Starting from these four devine beings the lineage continues through Durvasa, Paratirtha, Satya Prajna, Prajnatirtha and other saints. Saint Acuta Prajna also belongs to that tradition. The lineage continued through the eight Swamijis of the Mutts and also Padmanabha Tirtha. Thus Sanaka and others are at the head of the Madhva guru paramparaa. When Madhvacharya installed the idol of Krishna coming from Dwaraka, the Sanakas also wanted to worship the idol. They wanted to worship the idol which was worshipped by Rkmini herself. The Acharya permitted Sanakas to offer servides to Krishna in privacy before he himself performs the main pooja. Thus the tradition of worship by Sanaka and other continues for the past seven centuries. Before the worship starts the Navagraha window is closed. The Swamiji also comes out of the shrine and waits in the adjacent room. The Sanakas are supposed to come inside the sanctum sanctorum in solitude and offer their servies to Lord Krishna. The shrine is reserved for these invisible divine beings for some time. Then the Swamiji enters the shrine, offers naiveedya and waves eight aaratis.
  10. Mahapooja:
    After the saints Sanaka and others complete their services to the Lord, it is believed that Sri Madhvacharya himself performs the main puja through the Paryaya Swamiji. The mahaapooja is the last service in the forenoon.. The Paryaya Swamiji again performs lhim ablution in the tank. The drum known as nagaari is beaten to announce the commencement of the ritual. The drum beating conveys the message to the entire town. As soon as the message of the Swamiji's going for his ablution reches the devotees, thouse who desire to witness the puja start coming towards the temple. When the Swamiji starts his rituals the priests begin to chant sahasra naama and other vedic hymns. At the end of the archana different dishes are offered as naiveedya. The offering consists of fourteen seers of rice, sweet pudding paramaanna, huggi, appa, vade, chakkuli, gulloorige, holige, atirasa, laddu, laddige, pancakajjaya, milk, curds, fruits, cconut, betal leaf and nut etc. Along with it rice cake and rice gruel in a silver bowl are also offered. During this ritual of samarpana the musicians chant dvaadasa stotras. The Swamiji puts tulasi sprouts into the dishes and then comes out of the shrine for some time. It is believed that Sri Madhvacharya himself comes to the shrine at that time to offer the dishes to Krishna. After this the aaratis are waved. Different kinds of musical instruments and bells like sankha, bheerii, taala, ganthaa are plajed. This is a feast to the eyes of the devotees assembled in the temple. After this the Swamiji comes to the shrine of Mukhyaprana and offers worship. The naiveedya offered to the krishna is now offered to Mukhaya Prana. The swamiji waves aarati to Mukhya Prana and Garuda. Then the Swamiji offers pooja to the idol of Madhvacharya at the entrance. He stands at the steps and performs panchopachaara and waves aarati. He then performs pooja to the deities of his mutt in the room known as simhaasana. He then goes round the shrine and prostrates before the idol. From there the Swamiji goes to the tank and offers oblation to the preceptor and saints and worships the idol of Bhagirathi. The naiveedya is thrown into the tank for the benefit of the fishes. The Swamiji then proceeds towards the Subramanya Shrine located by the side of the Vasantha Mahal. After worshipping the Subramanya he isits vrndavana and pays homage and offers holy water to departed preceptors. He also goes round the pipal tree there and finally returns to the temple. Then sitting in the simhaasana he accepts the holy water and also distributes holy water to the devotees. He takes his food along with scholars and pilgrims in the chauki. These are the activities after the mahaa puja. The Afternoon Poojas: After lunch the Swamiji sits for w while in his simhaasana, offers mantraaksatam to devotees and returns to his room. He engages himself lthere in teaching and lscholarly discussions with students and professos and also grants interviews to devotees. The period between 2.00 p.m. and 4.00 p.m. is resting time for the Mutt which starts its busy activities at 4.00 a.m. This is the time when the devotees can leisurely enter the shrine and look at the idol without much noise and rush. At 4.00 p.m. the drum announces the commencement of the evening rituals. The scholars start their discources on epics at about 4.30 p.m. in chandrasala. By about 6.00 p.m. the discourses stop after worshipping the sacred books ofepics. The Swamiji himself attends the puja and offers prasaadam to devotees. After this the singers assemble in the chandrasaalaa and start singing devotional songs. The Swamiji goes to the tank for ablution.
  11. Chamara Seva Pooja:
    When the Swamiji is engaged in his japa meditation the festival idol (a small metal idol used in procession) is brought to the mantapa and kept there. Two baskets filled with fried rice are kept on both sides. Milk, fruits, coconut, betal leaf and nut and laddus are also kept in front of the idol. On both sides of the mantap the rows of oil lamps brighten the area. The Swamiji completes his evening meditation and arrives at the passage in between the mantap and chandrasala. Two chowries made of yak's tail and set to a golden handle are kept there. The Swamiji takes them in his hands and waves them in front of the idol. This is the first servies to the deity outside the sanctum sanctorum. The other one is the mantapa pooja which takes place after the ratri pooja. For about five minutes the Swamiji offers his services to the deity by fanning with the chowries. He then hands over the chowries to his associates who continue to wave the chowries in an artistic manner. The Swamiji performs panchopachara pooja by offering fried rice and jaggery kept in baskets and waves aarati first to the main idol through the naagraha window and then to the small idol kept at the mantap and then to the idol of Mukhya Prana and Garuda in Chandra Sala. From there the Swamiji goes to his simhasana and worships the idols of his own Mutt.
  12. Ratri Pooja:
    Then the Swamiji enters the sanctum sanctorum for the ratri pooja. After chanting the hundred and eight names of the God he offers naiveedya consisting of tamarind rice, pan cake, tender coconut, panchakajjaya and betal leaf and nut. He then waves aratis of different kinds. Coming out of the sanctum sanctorum the Swamiji offers worship to the idol of Madhvacharya at the entrance. The musicians known as bhagavatas sing devotional songs along with their disciples and dance according to the rythm. It provides a feast to the eyes.
  13. Mantapa Pooja - Astaavadhaana pooja:
    The mobile idol of Sri Krishna is again brought out in a palanquin and kept in a cradle in the mantap and worshipped with many musical instruments played there. This is also known as vaalaga mantapa pooja. The golden cradle used in this serice was offered by the Swamiji or Sri Palimar Mutt Sr Vidyamanya Thirtha in the year 1971 A.D. During the month of Vaishaka this serice is held in the Vasantha Mahal. Formerly, during the special festivals of the year, it was held in the open place by the side of the Shirur Mutt in front of the room in which the silver chariot is now stationed. After the idol is placed in the cradle the Swamiji rocks the cradle. The musicians sing and chant and the Swamiji offers fried rice and waves aarati. Then Swamiji steps down from the mantap and sits on Chandrasaala. The right kinds of services are offered to the Lord in the form of rigveeda seva, yajur veda seva, saama veda seva, atharva veda seva, veedaanta seva, puraana seva and sangita seva. If a devotee has offered a special service that day, he gets the privilege of honouring the Swamiji by offering sandal paste and waving aarati. The idol is now placed in the palanquin and taken round the sanctum sanctorum accompanied by a melodious of the flute. This is a feast to the eyes as well as ears.
  14. Ekaanta Seva - Sayanotsava pooja:
    After going round the shrine the palanquin stops at the entrance. The Swamiji takes the idol to the first room at the entrance and places the idol in a golden cradle behind the Channakeshava entrance. From now onwards until dawn Lord Kishna is supposed to sleep here. Only the Swamijis and associates participate in the service here. The public do not have access to this place. Hence it is known as ekaanta seva, worship in seclusion. The golden cradle used here was offered by the Swamiji of Admar Mutt Sri Vibhudhesha Thirtha during the tenure of his paryaya in the year 1973 AD with the help of devotees. When the Swamiji rocks the cradle, the musicians sing lullabies. The Swamiji offers milk, sandal paste, sandal oil, holy leaves, nutmeg, cloves, perfume etc., and waves aarati. This is the termination of the fourteen services offered to Lord Krishna. The Swamiji then sits in simhasana and distributes prasaadam to devotees and piligrims. By about 11.00 p.m. everything is over and the shrine is locked. During festival days it may be further delayed. The same process starts the next day at about 4.00 a.m.
